Cambridge is a city in Isanti County, Minnesota, located at the junction of Minnesota State Highways 65 and 95. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.68 square miles (19.89 km2), of which 7.46 square miles (19.32 km2) is land and 0.22 square miles (0.57 km2) is water. The elevation is 961 feet (293 m).
The Rum River flows north to south through the middle of Cambridge. Camping, canoeing, and fishing are popular attractions of the Rum River.

As of the census of 2010, there were 8,111 people, 3,137 households, and 1,967 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,087.3 inhabitants per square mile (419.8/km2). There were 3,426 housing units at an average density of 459.2 per square mile (177.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.5% White, 1.0% African American, 0.5% Native American, 1.4% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 3,137 households of which 35.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.3% were married couples living together, 12.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.3% were non-families. 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.08.
The median age in the city was 34.1 years. 26.6% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 27.5% were from 25 to 44; 19.5% were from 45 to 64; and 17.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.4% male and 52.6% female.

The old city of Cambridge was located a mile and one half south of the present city, platted in 1856 by John Owens, a St. Paul newspaperman, and R. F. Slaughter, a St. Paul real estate developer; Owens retired from the newspaper in 1857 and began farming in North Branch Township. The post office was established in 1856. The new Cambridge was started when Jedediah Kimball of Maine built a boardinghouse in 1859, and most of the townsite had moved there by 1869, the year voters selected Cambridge, rather than Old Isanti, for the county seat; it was incorporated as a village February 26, 1876. A number of businesses began, including a woolen mill, roller mills, and a starch factory, and when the Great Northern Railway came through in 1899, there was increased development.

Cambridge Antique Fair Cambridge hosts over 800 antique dealers from all over the Mid-West making up about 300 dealer booths. The size of the show is just about right for a day-trek from many of the region's population centers and countryside. Many of the dealers that attend Cambridge do not set up in other shows in the area. lso, ours is an annual show, so you’re bound to see lots of antiques that you haven’t seen elsewhere. Items in all price ranges and collecting categories can be found. We do not allow dealers to sell flea market items such as T-shirts, Sun Glasses and New Tools. |
