History:

GARVIN, a city in section 27, Custer, was developed by the Chicago and North Western Railway in 1879, although a depot was not built until 1886. It was platted April 30, 1886. It was first identified as Siding No. 7, and then called Terry (1886), and afterward Kent (1887) for Chicago missionary Father Kent, which was changed to the present name in July 1891 in honor of H. C. Garvin, traveling freight agent of the railway. Area residents often referred to the community as Seefield, the post office name, 1887-91, for a resident who built the first building, a grain elevator, near the station.

Recreation:
Garvin Park

Back in the thirties, one of the most popular spots in Lyon County was a 27-acre track of woodland along the Cottonwood River. This park became a reality through the efforts of interested people, the Garvin Community Club, and Mr. H.C. Garvin a retired Winona businessman. In his youth, Mr. Garvin, was a station agent at Tracy for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He became the chief contributor of money and equipment for the park.

Prairie Marsh & Thunderstruck Kennels are located in southwestern MN. Our main goal is to breed gundogs that are a joy to own not only in the field but as a year round family member. We have small kennels with only our own personal gundogs we use to hunt pheasant, duck, rabbit, woodcock & grouse in Minnesota, Nebraska, and the Dakotas. We do a small amount of field trials in the Midwest, making up a number of Field Trial Champions to date.
