History:

GRANITE FALLS, a city with Chippewa County, and the county seat, platted May 7, 1872, incorporated as a village March 17, 1879, and as a city on April 24, 1889, received its name from the granite and gneiss outcrops of the Minnesota River here, over which and on boulders in the river bed it falls 38 feet. This county's part of the city is in sections 28, 33, and 34 of Stony Run East Township. George Daniels was the first postmaster at Palmers Creek, 1868-70, while it was in Chippewa County; the name was changed to Granite Falls, and Daniels continued as postmaster and also served as county surveyor, first judge of probate for the county, and ferry owner. The city had a station of the Great Northern Railway.

Minnesota River Valley National Scenic Byway

Life still moves at an unhurried pace, neighbors wave at passing cars, and visitors are embraced with old-fashioned hospitality along this nationally designated route. The Minnesota River begins at Big Stone Lake and this drive follows it along a series of roads to Belle Plaine. Several spots focus on Dakota Indian heritage and tell the tragic story of the 1862 U.S.-Dakota War. You can learn about this history at the Lower Sioux Agency, Fort Ridgely and Lac qui Parle Mission-all state historic sites, and at the Treaty Site History Center in St. Peter. New Ulm's German heritage is celebrated in its festivals, shops and restaurants. Many of the downtown areas boast antique shops and mom-and-pop eateries. Or, bring a canoe to experience the sites by water, as the Minnesota River is one of the few canoe rivers in southwestern Minnesota. Mankato is the western access for the Sakatah Singing Hills Bike Trail.

This historic dining spot is located just outside the city limits of Granite Falls, MN (home of Andrew J. Volstad author of the Volstad act that made prohibition of alcohol law) The original building was once an illegal "Speakeasy" before being moved to its current location in 1949. It has housed many legal "supper clubs" since. No where else on the planet does such a historical contrast exist. We like to think of ourselves as "Modern Day Bootlegger's." While no laws are being broken now, our signature, made from scratch dishes break away from the norm of pre-cooked and pre-processed restaurant food that all too common today.

We are a nonprofit, member-owned corporation made up of members/stockholders, who pay a one-time fee of $50.00 per household. It is our intent to provide services at the lowest possible cost to our members. MVTV started on January 30, 1960. The Granite Falls boys high school basketball team was good and headed to the state playoffs. In an effort to cheer on their team and follow their journey to the state championships, a small group of volunteers decided to raise money in an attempt to bring the televised event to Granite Falls. Through their enthusiasm and determination, they were able to raise money and debut the first six channel television system to the rural Minnesota community.

Hi, we’re Tom and Laurie Aus and we want to share our family’s candy recipe with you. In fact, we are the third-generation of our family to use the same delicious, buttery brittle recipe. It’s a secret recipe our family cherishes and we hope you enjoy eating it as much as we enjoy making it. We use the freshest ingredients and nuts to create, from-scratch, the tastiest peanut, pecan, coconut and cashew brittle. Click, order, then you can taste what generations of people have already experienced: the rich & creamy candies made - by hand - by the Aus family.
