History:

LA SALLE, a city in sections 16 and 17 of Riverdale, platted October 12, 1899, and incorporated as a village on January 25, 1921, is named like a county and city of Illinois, a county in Texas, and a village on the Niagara River in New York, for the renowned French explorer Robert Cavelier, sieur de la Salle (1643-87). The city was a originally a station of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad; its post office was established in 1900, with John Sundt as postmaster in his general store. The Younger brothers were captured one mile south on September 21, 1876, following their holdup of the Northfield bank.
