Lake County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 11,058. Its county seat is Two Harbors6. Lake County was founded on 2/20/1855 as Superior County and immediately had its name changed couple of weeks later on 3/3/1855 to St. Louis County. A year later on 3/1/1856, St. Louis County became Lake County while Newton County to the west was renamed St. Louis County.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 7,746 km˛ (2,991 mi˛). 5,437 km˛ (2,099 mi˛) of it is land and 2,309 km˛ (892 mi˛) of it (29.81%) is water.
