History:

MOUNDS VIEW Township, organized May 11, 1858, has a tract of hills of morainic drift extending from south to north about three miles through its central part, affording a fine panoramic view from their northern and highest points, which are about 200 feet above the surrounding country. When the township was organized, it included the present Shoreview, Arden Hills, New Brighton, Mounds View, and parts of North Oaks and St. Anthony; the township changed when New Brighton incorporated in 1891, Arden Hills in 1951, and Spring Lake Park in 1956. The city of Mounds View was incorporated as a village on April 24, 1958; its post office operated 1858-59 and again 1887-89, before being transferred to New Brighton, St. Paul providing that service since 1950.
