History:

OSSEO, a city in Maple Grove Township, platted July 10, 1852, and incorporated February 24, 1875. Among the early settlers was Warren Sampson, who built a store in 1854 and operated the post office, then named Palestine, 1855-56; with Isaac La Bissonniere, Sampson again platted the community in 1856, changing its name to Osseo. A short time later another village, City of Attraction, was laid out to the southeast by A. B. Chaffee, its stores and homes later absorbed by Osseo. Potatoes were a major farm export crop and from that enterprise developed the Osseo Starch Factory owned by the Wilmes brothers. The village had a station of the Great Northern Railway in section 18.
