History:

ST. PAUL PARK, once part of Newport Township, was platted in 1887 on 1,300 acres of farmland owned by William Fowler; it was incorporated as a village in 1909. The village had six hotels, the largest of which was The Parker House, named for one of the city's founders, Charles Parker, whose name is also represented by the Park part of the city name. Its post office was established in 1888; it had a station of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad.
