Clarissa Minnesota Community Guide

Clarissa is a city in Todd County, Minnesota. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.00 square mile (2.59 km2). The elevation is 1,322 ft (403 m).

CLARISSA, a city in section 27 of Eagle Valley Township, was incorporated as a village on April 22, 1897. Lewis Bischoffsheim, a land speculator, owned the land but never came to the area; his agent, George G. Howe, platted the townsite on July 21, 1879, and gave it a form of Clarisse Bischoffsheim's name. Howe was born in 1825 in New York, came to Minnesota in 1855 and to Todd County in 1878, and moved to Washington Territory in 1890, where he died in 1897. The post office was established in 1880; the Great Northern Railway had a spur station in section 36 and stopped at the Clarissa gravel pit in section 26.
