History:

CRYSTAL village, as it is now named, incorporated January 11, 1887, would be more suitably termed a small township, under which form of government it was organized April 3, 1860, when Minneapolis and Brooklyn Townships gave up some of their land, being then called Crystal Lake. The northern part was once called Farmersville Township, which in 1858 took two tiers of sections from Brooklyn Township and one from Minneapolis but did not organize, and the boundaries reverted and became part of the new township. The village was the site of a large stockyard in the 1880s; it incorporated as a city in 1960; a post office was located there, 1883-1901. The village has the Twin Lakes and the smaller Crystal Lake, which boasts "a good depth of water and better shores." Besides the title of the township and village, its Crystal Prairie, four miles long and a mile wide, but dotted originally with many small groves, like islands, was also named from the lake.
