History:

DEEPHAVEN, a city located on Carson's Bay, incorporated as a village in 1900; its post office was first called Northome, 1882-92 (named by Charles S. Gibson of St. Louis, who in 1877 built a house he called "Nort Home"; later he opened the Hotel St. Louis overlooking Bay St. Louis), and was discontinued in 1914. The Hazen J. Burtons moved into a home on Carson's Bay and were asked to name the station of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad located at the foot of their hill; Mrs. Burton suggested Deephaven after the title of a book by her favorite New England author, Sarah Orne Jewett. Hazen J. Burton became the first mayor. The city was the site of the Haralson Brothers tree nursery where the Haralson apple was developed.
