Garvin Minnesota Community Guide

Garvin is a city in Lyon County, Minnesota. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.28 square miles (0.73 km²), of which, 0.27 square miles (0.70 km²) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km²) is water. The elevation is 1,539 ft (469 m) above sea level.

GARVIN, a city in section 27, Custer, was developed by the Chicago and North Western Railway in 1879, although a depot was not built until 1886. It was platted April 30, 1886. It was first identified as Siding No. 7, and then called Terry (1886), and afterward Kent (1887) for Chicago missionary Father Kent, which was changed to the present name in July 1891 in honor of H. C. Garvin, traveling freight agent of the railway. Area residents often referred to the community as Seefield, the post office name, 1887-91, for a resident who built the first building, a grain elevator, near the station.

Garvin Park 1440 US Highway 59 Garvin, MN 56132 Garvin Park features 4 campgrounds with 47 sites with electricity. Camping Registration Pay Tubes are located at each campground, or register with the Camp Host (Site 11-Lower camp).  Garvin Park allows camping reservations . Reservation information is listed on the website www.lyonco.org/garvin. 5 sites are reservable in each campground. Reservations can be made by phone (507-532-8210). All other sites are on a first come-first serve basis. Sites are considered occupied ONLY if a registered motor vehicle is parked on the camping pad.
