Nerstrand is a small town in Rice County, Minnesota. Minnesota State Highway 246 serves as a main route in the community. Minnesota State Highways 56 and 60 are nearby. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.42 square miles (3.68 km2), all of it land. The elevation is 1,191 ft (363 m) above sea level.

NERSTRAND, a city in Wheeling Township, settled in 1855, platted in 1885 by Osmund Osmundson, and incorporated January 30, 1897, bears the name of an earlier post office, which was named by Osmundson for his former home in Norway. Osmundson was born in Norway in 1826, came to the United States in 1850 and to Nerstrand in 1856, served as a county commissioner and in the legislature, 1872-73, and died in 1914. The post office began in 1877, with Augen H. Brokke as postmaster in his store.
