Olde Fashioned Christmas in Plainview has become the traditional holiday kickoff for Plainview and surrounding communities. Free Horse drawn wagon rides to Live Nativity, Brass Band, Decorated Homes, and more. Lots of strolling holiday characters, food and fun.

Located in Plainview, MN, in the heart of the Greenwood Prairie in Southeast Minnesota, the Jon Hassler Theater presents a full season of live professional theater productions each year. Its proximity to State Parks, bike trails and unique shops and restaurants adds to a truly unique theater experience. Come spend a day with your friends in the country!

The Plainview Area History Center is an excellent place to research family history and learn about life in Plainview in days-gone-by. It is located in the former Plainview Methodist Church, a long-standing landmark in the Plainview community. The History Center is a non-profit organization and affiliate of the Rural America Arts Partnership. Its doors opened in May 1999; the J.R. Watkins house was purchased in 2008. Both sites are open to the public on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Beauty and quiet, that is the essence of Carley State Park. In the spring, delicate bluebells (Mertensia virginica), and other wildflowers carpet the valley with a profusion of color. Hike along the trail that follows the Whitewater River and take in the grand old white pines. Listen for the sweet song of orioles, song sparrows, house wrens, and indigo buntings. Enjoy the picnic area, play on the swings or practice softball. Try your hand at horseshoes or sit back and see a red-tailed hawk ride thermals in the sky. The north branch of the Whitewater River is a designated trout stream and provides habitat for brown trout. Rustic campsites are located near the picnic area.

The Great River Ridge Trail passes through rural countryside, linking two farm communities, Plainview and Elgin. This is the initial segment of a proposed 13-mile trail expanding to Carley State Park and linking to the Root River Trail and Chester Woods Park.

Piper Hills Golf Course offers golf enthusiasts a 9-hole regulation length public golf course with a driving range in Plainview, Minnesota. This short layout rewards good shots. Adult and Junior Golf Leagues have events scheduled throughout the season. Individual lessons are available from Kirk Thompson, golf course staffperson. A new Pro-shop full service bar is located in the Pro-Shop. Green fees range from $20 to $25.
