Redwood Falls Minnesota Community Guide

Redwood Falls is a city in and the county seat of Redwood County in the state of Minnesota. Redwood Falls is located along U.S. Route 71. Other significant highways in the city include Minnesota State Highways 19 and 67. The Redwood River flows through the city near its mouth at the Minnesota River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.38 square miles (13.93 km2); 5.25 square miles (13.60 km2) is land and 0.13 square miles (0.34 km2) is water. The elevation is 1,040 ft (317 m) above sea level.

REDWOOD FALLS, a city in Redwood Falls and Honner Townships and the county seat, first settled by Col. Samuel McPhail, J. S. G. Honner, and others in the spring and summer of 1864, was platted October 1865 and incorporated as a village March 9, 1876, and as a city April 1, 1891. The name is taken from the falls of the Redwood River, which descends about 140 feet by vertical falls and by rapids in its last three miles. The greater part of this descent takes place in a picturesque gorge close below the city area, within a distance of less than a half mile. The township of this name, having the city in its northeast corner, was organized January 22, 1880. The city is located in an area first opened to white settlers in 1851; the U.S. government built a sawmill at the falls of the Redwood River in 1855 and later a gristmill. McPhail platted the town in 1854 and built the first house; the post office began in 1864. The village had a station serving several rail lines, including the Chicago and North Western. The former county poor farm is the site of the Redwood County Museum and houses the Minnesota Inventors Hall of Fame.

Alexander Ramsey Park At 219 acres in size, Alexander Ramsey Park is the largest municipal park in the State of Minnesota. Termed as the "Little Yellowstone of Minnesota", the park is enhanced by 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps shelters and bridges and picturesque Ramsey Falls. The park serves as a focal point for community events, festivals and summer activities and features campground facilities, shelter houses, four miles of paved hiking trails, a DNR trout stream, scenic overlooks, and a zoo.

Ramsey Park Campground The city campground has 31 individual sites with 50 amp. electrical hookups. There are restroom facilities with modern services and showers. Near the restroom facility is city water and a sanitary disposal station. A limited supply of firewood is provided free of charge.
