Solway Minnesota Community Guide

Solway is a city in Beltrami County, Minnesota. US Highway 2 serves as the main arterial route in the community. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.03 square miles (2.67 km²), all of it land. The elevation is 1,450 ft (442 m) above sea level.

As of the census of 2010, there were 96 people, 32 households, and 26 families residing in the city. The population density was 93.2 inhabitants per square mile (36.0/km2). There were 33 housing units at an average density of 32.0 per square mile (12.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.9% White and 3.1% from two or more races.

There were 32 households of which 46.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.5% were married couples living together, 3.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 15.6% had a male householder with no wife present, and 18.8% were non-families. 15.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.00 and the average family size was 3.19.

The median age in the city was 35 years. 33.3% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.9% were from 25 to 44; 25.1% were from 45 to 64; and 13.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.0% male and 51.0% female.

SOLWAY, a city in section 28 of Lammers Township, and the Solway Lumber Company, which formerly worked in its vicinity, were named after Solway Firth, the wide inlet from the Irish Sea between England and Scotland. The post office began in 1898, the school was built in 1899, and by 1900 there were seven saloons, two hotels, two livery barns, several restaurants and stores, a weekly newspaper, a blacksmith, a feed store, a jail, a sawmill, and a hall, many of which burned in fires between 1905 and 1910; it had a station of the Great Northern Railway.
