Sturgeon Lake is a city in Pine County, Minnesota. Interstate 35, County Road 46, and County 61 (Main Street) are three of the main routes in the community. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.69 square miles (9.56 km2), of which 3.66 square miles (9.48 km2) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 km2) is water. The elevation is 1,073 feet (327 m).

As of the census of 2010, there were 439 people, 167 households, and 115 families residing in the city. The population density was 119.9 inhabitants per square mile (46.3/km2). There were 258 housing units at an average density of 70.5 per square mile (27.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.6% White, 0.5% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 1.4% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.

There were 167 households of which 37.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 31.1% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.17.

The median age in the city was 36.4 years. 30.8% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 27.6% were from 25 to 44; 22.1% were from 45 to 64; and 13.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 50.8% male and 49.2% female.

STURGEON LAKE Township, organized October 5, 1897, and its city in sections 11-14 were named for the large lake in Windemere Township, two miles east of this city. The city was platted on August 14, 1889, by the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad, owner of the land, and incorporated as a village on August 2, 1889; the post office operated 1881-82 and was reestablished in 1888.
