Trimont Minnesota Community Guide

Trimont is a city in Martin County, Minnesota. The community is located between Sherburn and St. James on Minnesota State Highway 4. Interstate 90 is nearby. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.74 square miles (1.92 km²), all of it land. The elevation is 1,220 ft (372 m) above sea level.

Trimont was once two different towns, platted by competing railroads. The two towns were Triumph, to the east, and Monterey to the west. These towns joined, using the first letters in each town's name, to form what is today known as Trimont. This gives Trimont the unique characteristic of two separate Main Street business districts which are on the same street, yet placed about a half-mile apart.

TRIMONT, a city in Galena and Fox Lake Townships, is the result of the merger between Triumph and Monterey. The village of Triumph, platted in 1899 and named by John Stein, in compliment for the Triumph Creamery company, had a station of Minnesota and International Railway in section 32 of Galena Township; the post office began in 1880, and the village was incorporated on August 15, 1901. Monterey had a station of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad in section 31 of Galena Township; the post office began in 1899, and the village was incorporated on October 14, 1902. As these two railroad communities grew, the few miles between them diminished, and they merged into one city on January 1, 1959.

Cedar Hanson Park 691 215th Street Trimont, MN 56176 The largest county park is located north of Trimont on Cedar Lake. The Edwin Dushinske farm was sold to the County in 1971 to create Cedar Lake County Park and included timber and a peninsula jutting out into Cedar Lake. The original Cedar Lake Park consisted of 43 acres. This property has approximately one mile of shoreline, and is located on the north side of the lake. Hanson Park was originally the John Hanson farm and had been a local gathering place for many years.

Forty-three landowners in the area partnered with Iberdrola Renewables and GRE to build the project on 8,900 acres of corn and soy fields in Martin and Jackson counties. It’s important to note that only 1 to 2 percent of those 8,900 acres is impacted by the facility. Underneath the 67 wind turbines, the harvesting of corn and soybeans proceeds as usual. The project is equipped with 67 General Electric (GE Wind) 1.5 MW turbines. Each turbine is 262 feet high at the tower’s hub, from which rotors 254 feet in diameter spin. The total capacity of the 67 turbines is 100 MW of wind energy annually. Iberdrola Renewables owns and operates the Trimont Area Wind Farm. GRE has purchased the output since the wind farm began operations in November 2005.
