Guide to Truman Minnesota

Truman is a city in Martin County, Minnesota. Minnesota State Highway 15 serves as a main route in the city. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.09 square miles (2.82 km²), all of it land. The elevation is 1,109 ft (338 m) above sea level.

TRUMAN, a city in sections 4, 9, and 10 in Westford, platted in 1899, was named for Truman Clark, a son of J. T. Clark, who was then the second vice-president of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad. Also several families named True lived near this village. It was incorporated as a village on March 31, 1900, having developed when the Watonwan Valley Railroad came in 1899. Most settlers lived on Elm Creek near the west ford, and as there were no bridges, the stream had to be crossed where fording was possible, thus the name of its post office, Westford, which began in section 36 in 1871 and changed to Truman in 1899. It had a station of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad.
