Vadnais Heights is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota. It borders the cities of Shoreview, Little Canada, White Bear Lake, Maplewood, and Gem Lake. Interstate Highway 35E, Interstate Highway 694, U.S. Highway 61, and County Highway 96 are four of the main routes in the city. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.3 square miles (21.5 km²), of which, 7.3 square miles (18.9 km²) is land and 1.0 square miles (2.6 km²) (12.06%) is water. The elevation is 906 ft (276 m) above sea level.

As of the census of 2000, there were 13,069 people, 5,064 households, and 3,448 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,793.4 people per square mile (692.2/km²). There were 5,132 housing units at an average density of 704.2/sq mi (271.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 91.67% White, 4.53% Asian, 1.48% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.47% from other races, and 1.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino was 1.61% of the population.

There were 5,064 households, of which 36.4% had children under the age of 18, 54.2% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% were non-families. 24.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household had 2.57 people and the average family size was 3.12.

In the city, the distribution of ages was spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $60,804, and the median income for a family was $74,178. Males had a median income of $48,611 versus $35,102 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,891. About 2.5% of families and 3.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.9% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.

VADNAIS HEIGHTS, a city formerly in White Bear Township, was incorporated on July 24, 1957, as a village; it was named for Lake Vadnais, which was named for Jean Vadnais, a French Canadian who settled on its southeast shore in 1846 just north of the first settler of record, Paul (Paulette) Bibeau, in 1845.
