Geography:
Williams is a city in
Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota.
Williams is located along Minnesota
State Highway 11 and County Road 2.
Williams is a gateway to nearby Zippel
Bay State Park on the South Shore of
Lake of the Woods. According to
the United States Census Bureau, the
city has a total area of 0.97 square
miles (2.51 km2), all of it land.
The elevation is 1,152 ft (351 m) above
sea level.

Demographics:
As of the census of 2010, there were
191 people, 86 households, and 46
families residing in the city. The
population density was 196.9 inhabitants
per square mile (76.0/km2). There were
110 housing units at an average density
of 113.4 per square mile (43.8/km2). The
racial makeup of the city was 95.3%
White, 1.0% African American, 0.5%
Native American, 2.6% Asian, and 0.5%
from other races. Hispanic or Latino of
any race were 0.5% of the population.
There were 86 households of which
27.9% had children under the age of 18
living with them, 33.7% were married
couples living together, 11.6% had a
female householder with no husband
present, 8.1% had a male householder
with no wife present, and 46.5% were
non-families. 38.4% of all households
were made up of individuals and 16.3%
had someone living alone who was 65
years of age or older. The average
household size was 2.22 and the average
family size was 2.93.
The median age in the city was 42.5
years. 27.7% of residents were under the
age of 18; 6.8% were between the ages of
18 and 24; 19.4% were from 25 to 44;
27.8% were from 45 to 64; and 18.3% were
65 years of age or older. The gender
makeup of the city was 50.3% male and
49.7% female.
History:
WILLIAMS, a city in section 18 of McDougald Township
and gateway to Zippel Bay State Park, located on the south shore of Lake
of the Woods, was incorporated as a village April 1, 1922; it developed
with the Minnesota and Manitoba Railroad as a shipping center for timber
products and was originally just called "The Siding"; it was named for
William Mason and George Williams, who had followed the track roadbed in
1901 to stake claims at the site; its post office began in 1903 with
William H. Dure, postmaster. Courtesy

The annual Festival that takes place in the fall
in Williams. The tradition started when Potato
Farmers would get together and have a
celebration that harvest was over. Potato day
has the best potatoes! |
