Hill City is a city in Aitkin County, Minnesota. U.S. Route 169 and Minnesota State Highway 200 are two of the main arterial routes in the community. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.52 square miles (3.94 km²), of which, 1.28 square miles (3.32 km²) of it is land and 0.24 square miles (0.62 km²) of it is water. The elevation is 1,339 ft (408 m) above sea level.
As of the census of 2010, there were 633 people, 271 households, and 159 families residing in the city. The population density was 494.5 inhabitants per square mile (190.9/km2). There were 444 housing units at an average density of 346.9 per square mile (133.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.5% White, 0.2% African American, 2.5% Native American, and 2.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 271 households of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.6% were married couples living together, 15.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 41.3% were non-families. 36.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.98.
The median age in the city was 43.1 years. 26.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.6% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 20.1% were from 25 to 44; 26.8% were from 45 to 64; and 20.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 46.8% male and 53.2% female.

Hill City, a city in Hill Lake Township, section 14; incorporated on February 19, 1910, and separated from the township on March 22, 1911; its post office began in 1901. The early settlement had a station of the Hill City Railway, three hotels, a woodenware factory, and a number of other businesses; the major industries were shipping cooperage stock, forest products, and produce.

Hill City Trail
A challenging ride, with steep climbs and turns, the trail winds through the hardwood forest near Quadna Mountain. Stop along the Willow River for a must-see view from the bridge. Parking and picnic areas are located off the trail. Trails are provided by Aitkin County and local ATV Clubs |

| Hill Lake Park Swimming and sun bathing can be enjoyed in the sparkling water and sandy beach. This beautiful, wooded area was donated to the City in September of 1921 for the specific purpose of being a park for the City residents and tourists to enjoy. Hill Lake Park includes rest rooms with shower facilities, picnic shelter, playground, beach, fishing dock and boat landing. It has 10 campsites with electrical hookup and 30 tent sites available. |
