Yellow Medicine County is a county located in the State of Minnesota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,438. Its county seat is Granite Falls. The county name is based on a plant which the native Dakota people used the yellow root of for medicinal purposes. The Upper Sioux Indian Reservation is entirely within the county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 763 square miles (1,977 kmē), of which 758 square miles (1,963 kmē) is land and 5 square miles (14 kmē) (0.71%) is water.
