As of the census of 2010, there were 391 people, 180 households, and 99 families residing in the city. The population density was 197.5 inhabitants per square mile (76.3/km2). There were 207 housing units at an average density of 104.5 per square mile (40.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.1% White, 0.3% African American, 4.1% Native American, 0.3% from other races, and 0.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.5% of the population.
There were 180 households of which 27.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.4% were married couples living together, 13.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 45.0% were non-families. 41.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.91.
The median age in the city was 43.3 years. 23% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23% were from 25 to 44; 23.4% were from 45 to 64; and 22.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 46.5% male and 53.5% female.

McGregor, a city in McGregor Township, sections 30 and 31; incorporated on August 27, 1903, and separated from the township on March 24, 1919; named either for a hunter and trapper named McGregor who came from New York or for Maj. John G. MacGregor of Minneapolis; the post office was established in 1890.

The course will include: an 18-hole, 7,200-yard championship course that has five tee boxes for all skill levels (projected opening August 2007); Plus a 9 hole executive course featuring junior tees for families and those who would like less of a challenge. The clubhouse features restaurants, tennis courts and a swimming pool.

Rice Lake National
Wildlife Refuge 36289 State Highway 65 McGregor, MN 55760 Phone: (218) 768-2402 Web: www.fws.gov/refuge/rice_lake Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located in Aitkin County in east central Minnesota, about five miles south of the community of McGregor. It was established in 1935 to preserve valuable habitat for waterfowl. The most important resource on the refuge is Rice Lake itself, a shallow, 3,600 acre wild rice-producing lake. The refuge has been designated as a Globally Important Bird Area by the American Bird Conservancy due to the importance of the lake and its wild rice as a food source to migrating waterfowl, especially ring-necked ducks. The refuge has also been designated as a State Important Bird Area, as part of the larger McGregor Important Bird Area, by the National Audubon Society.

Anglers enjoy fishing the lake and river for Northern pike, walleye, Rock bass, bluegill and crappie. The original wood dam was built in 1895 and included a lock that allowed steam boats to travel through to the Mississippi River. The original wood structure was replaced with concrete in 1912 and the lock was last cycled in 1956. Today, the lock house has been converted into a small museum containing historical artifacts of the area. Educational programs are also offered seasonally and are open to the public free of charge.

Savanna Portage State Park

Walk the Savanna Portage Trail, a historic trail traveled by fur traders, Dakota and Ojibwe Indians, and explorers more than 200 years ago. Savanna Portage State Park has 15,818 acres of rolling hills, lakes, and bogs. The Continental Divide marks the great division of water: water to the west flows into the Mississippi River; water to the east runs into Lake Superior. Visitors can hike the Continental Divide Trail and see forested vistas. During the summer, visitors enjoy swimming at Loon Lake. Bike enthusiasts can pedal on roads, or on dirt trails designated for mountain bikes. With four fishing lakes and a river, its common for anglers to catch panfish, trout and bass. Come winter, this park offers snowmobilers approximately 60 miles of trails to explore. This park is a favorite among cross-country skiers too with 10 miles of trails to ski.

It was established in 1935 to preserve valuable habitat for waterfowl. The most important resource on the refuge is Rice Lake itself, a shallow, 3,600 acre wild rice-producing lake. The refuge has been designated as a Globally Important Bird Area by the American Bird Conservancy due to the importance of the lake and its wild rice as a food source to migrating waterfowl, especially ring-necked ducks. The refuge has also been designated as a State Important Bird Area, as part of the larger McGregor Important Bird Area, by the National Audubon Society.
